Phlegm is the thick, viscous mucus produced by the mucous membrane for protecting & supporting the respiratory system when you fall ill. Mucus is sticky so, it can trap the lots of debris & allergens. It causes terrible congestion in our throats/ or chest. The color of phlegm varies depending on our health.
There are various simple ways to remove phlegm. Let us now take a look at how we can get rid of phlegm:
Blow Your Nose
The most straight-forward way is, of course, blow your nose to clear the mucus from the nasal passage. It should be done correctly otherwise it may raise other problems.
Use A Humidifier
Adding some moisture to the air will help in keeping the mucus thin to move out. Steam is the good option to clear the phlegm by adding some dried herbs such as rosemary, thyme, mint, & pure essential oils into the water. Oral decongestants are available in the form of capsules, tablets, sprays, syrups & flavored powders.
OTC medicines making it easier to cough out. Medications such as Mucinex, Robitussin are known as expectorants.
Even chest rubs such as Vicks Vaporub can provide relief from a cough.
Many medications that help to get rid of phlegm in the chronic lung conditions such as in cystic fibrosis: Dornase-Alfa is inhaled through the nebulizer.
